Hey! I'm a South Dakotan late teenager with a passion for engineering of all kinds, but particularly civil engineering, and more particularly road design and land use. American urbanism sucks, and I hope that in the future, I can help fix it.

I may or may not do a lot of bitching about my town's design on this account, but as far as Midwestern cities go, know it's actually really good. I just think it could be a lot better.
Car ads are so funny this time of year. Yeah buddy, I'm sure the reason your family gathering was fun was cause someone arrived in a Subaru. That sounds about right.

Been reading *Walkable City* by Jeff Speck and found out that there are an average of 500,000,000 empty parking spaces in the U.S. at any given time. That's almost 1.5x as many people live in the country. We have enough parking for another America and a half, assuming everyone owns a car.

"I'm an ICE officer" is the new "I'm a sovereign citizen"

Every town has this weird middle ground while it's just starting to become bike friendly where there's enough protection for some people to bike places, but not enough for anyone who isn't stupid to do so, so you get this culture of cyclists who run stop signs and don't pay attention to traffic.

Writing my senior research paper on the positive effects of bike lanes on cities' safety and health. I have a feeling I'll end up going well over the six page length requirement.

Wait it's actually kinda insane that pedestrians can't cross uncontrolled intersections diagonally but cars can turn right on a red light. Cars get to have an exception to a rule, but pedestrians have a limitation on one of theirs.

I was playing VRChat with my girlfriend and found out that the tier list world we were in had a transit tier list. Here are my opinions 😌

Bike rack at my school on the first day, almost completely full. Seems like it might be time for an upgrade, hm?

Maybe truck guys are scared of buses because they're the one thing that won't get immediately demolished if they hit it while not paying attention to the road.

I feel like after a certain point, you have to admit that pedestrian visibility is not the issue.

Sitting at work, daydreaming about founding a city and making it actually good.

We should make 6 foot curbs so if someone is stopped in the crosswalk, you can just walk on top of their car.

People need to stop trying to invent new forms of transit. We already have them all. We don't need more, we can't make more, and if you try it'll just be trains again.

In Florida rn for a school trip. This is PEAK American civil engineering 😌

Walkability is important cause what if I hate myself and want a 2 liter coke to drink in under an hour so I can fall asleep for the rest of the day, but I don't trust myself to drive without running a stop sign in this state

Fun fact: Paris used to have a stop sign.

It got stolen so many times they eventually just stopped replacing it, though.

A little disappointed at the lack of transhitposting on here so far, but it's very possible that that's just because I haven't built up my algorithm yet. If not, for shame, urbanism Bluesky. Grow a sense of humor.

Fun fact: 99% of traffic engineers quit right before one more lane fixes congestion!
May 18, 2025 at 5:33 AM
Ok, first post because this has been bothering me forever, I HATE THIS ROAD. The trees are nice or whatever, but it's 45 FEET WIDE. The right lane of this road is wider than the highway (before it enters town and becomes 6 lanes)
