Borealis is suffering immensely from this problem. If you live in Wisconsin vote for pro-rail candidates in the legislature in 2026 and encourage them to include funding in the next budget cycle for additional rolling stock. A $100 million+ investment is sorely needed in Wisconsin.
Amtrak has a problem: There’s more demand than it can handle. Trains regularly sell out, year round.
The need for more capacity is evident year-round, as the most popular parts of routes sell out or are available only at shockingly high prices

Kind of disappointing that Madison eliminated a size-able chunk of the center running lanes for side running lanes in the North-South BRT.

Came across this nugget about adding a 3rd daily round trip. I’m assuming they can do this with existing equipment? If not I’d be delighted to see the big magic hat they are pulling new equipment from and ask if we can pull some out for Borealis.

I suspect this means Kwik Trip will get its first real competition from another gas station. Deforest is getting most of the money they needed to upgrade the interchange for a Buc-ees. I still think Buc-ees should be paying for the whole thing.

What was initially planned as 6 round trips back in 2010, then 4 RT at the start of Corridor ID and now just 2 if Amtrak has its way is exactly how you kill potential high ridership. Hopefully WISDOT sticks with 4RT.

While the current administration is completely at fault for this chaos, it raises the larger frustration of why it takes so damn long to do any sort of infrastructure projects in the US and as a result are at the whims of shifting political changes.

Amtraks Nov performance report came out. Borealis (like most state routes) lost money. It has a load factor comparable to NER trains that make money. Are ticket prices on NER REALLY just that much more expensive??
