About a year ago, he also helped me when I was at the absolute end of my tether with a kafkaesque situation. I was in the long queue and he was going down the line just checking everyone was in the right place. When he got to me I said, If I look grumpy it’s because I am.

But adding that the ones I do pay for, I'm very happy to be paying for. I probably don't have the budget to pay for me. Maybe there's some kind of aggregated model ahead?

And I do get that it's a bit of income for writers and some have used it to establish magazine-style publications. But the long term vision for this model is still kind of puzzling to me.

I actually (and actively and often grumpily) unsubscribe to the ones where I'm happily reading away then get hit with a 'this is for paid subscribers.' It's too frustrating to invest myself in what I'm reading then find out I can't read the rest of it.
