Not sure. It didn't sound terrible but she brought up Gary Friedman's "excuse" of the "worst housing market in 40 years." (And it is.) Somethings are working for them but India is one of their largest suppliers and it has a 50% tariff. She also warned the analysts they were not "immune" to tariffs.

Terrifying.

It's platform has been around for 20 years and has given millions of authors a way to get their books out. It has transformed some careers like Colleen Hoover, whose books are now being made into movies.

Just make it so they can only buy ETFs or mutual funds. Problem solved.

Yes. These aren't "regulations." They are nothing but his signature on a piece of paper. He's also on the wrong side of this issue. Americans want some regulations on AI, not less regulations.

A "clever name"? Amazon completely revolutionized publishing. Like the creation of the printing press. There are no gatekeepers now.

They aren't all ebooks. Indie authors sell paperbacks, hardbacks, ebooks everything. You have probably read a book by an indie author you bought off Amazon and never knew it.
November 20, 2025 at 4:16 AM
Yes. We are talking about "indie" authors. Indie = independents. They are not published by one of the big publishers. They are usually self-published. The boycott is really hitting them hard.

You cannot "exist" alongside it. It's the largest platform. It's the best way to get discovered. You can pay for promotion on it. Being a novelist IS a career and you need to be on the best platforms.
November 20, 2025 at 4:00 AM
Agreed about Kindle Unlimited. Most indies rely on Amazon. And they aren't getting rich. But if you were getting $500 a month before the boycott and now you're getting $200, it really hits hard.
November 20, 2025 at 3:59 AM
Yep. Other countries have tried to pay for more kids. Several in Europe have tried it. South Korea has tried it. It didn't work because money isn't the only factor behind falling birth rates.
November 20, 2025 at 3:57 AM
Is it their only way of doing business? Did they publish it? Is it on their Kindle Direct program? If you are boycotting to punish Jeff Bezos, which is apparently why there is a boycott, all you are doing is hurting these authors trying to make it.
November 20, 2025 at 3:56 AM
Not every author has their books available on other platforms or available to order. Many are exclusive on Amazon. It's the largest platform.
November 20, 2025 at 3:54 AM
Yes, you can get some books on Barnes & Noble. But, as you indicate, Amazon IS the largest platform. Many authors have said their sales have plunged. It's really industrywide. I get it that people think this is punishing Jeff Bezos in some way. But it's just hurting authors.
November 20, 2025 at 3:53 AM
Many indie books are not available on other platforms. Many publish directly on Amazon. A few indies will put their book on Barnes & Noble and a few other sites. But for many, Amazon is their top platform. It would be like not putting your show on Netflix and hoping for the best.
November 20, 2025 at 3:52 AM
They cannot ditch Amazon. That's nuts. It's the biggest platform and, for many, is the ONLY way they would make any sales. It would be like telling a movie director, don't put your film in the theater. It will be fine streaming on Paramount+.
November 20, 2025 at 3:51 AM
Great. But I know many indies who are only on Amazon. Their book sales have been crushed due to the boycott. It's very noticeable among writers in the last few months.
November 20, 2025 at 3:49 AM
We are here. The writer community has slowly been growing here. Welcome.

Why is releasing the Epstein files a "hoax"? I don't get it.
November 20, 2025 at 3:44 AM
There has been a boycott of both Target and Amazon recently though. Both have been somewhat successful. (But I beg people to please buy books from indie authors on Amazon. They are feeling the boycott but have done nothing to deserve it.)

Has the entire EU ever had a general strike?

Remember when Americans once boycotted Nike and others because of labor conditions in their factories?
