We start teaching development in January, but next week we’re introducing it via Gapminder/Dollar St and will start to unpick some wider misconceptions then. The biggest barrier in teaching India is just how rapidly it evolves as a case study, but that adds to the joy of teaching it for me 😊

We’re also Edexcel A and teach India as our emerging country case study. The latter half of the development spec considers global status, tech innovation and some of the strategies we look at for this can then also shift upwards to the globalisation unit at A Level.

Commented on the original post, but essentially I think it’s tricky for us to implement in every lesson.

Where we can build familiarity/repetition however is consistently using it in similar circumstances e.g. describing location, breaking down low tariff Qs etc.

Yep, it could be that they have the discussion then the extent of their understanding is tested through those. I’ll try to share an example of how we’ve implemented it with Y10 later today - currently have our new cat stuck to me 🤣

We’ve had a whole school drive on pupil talk recently, and one of the things we focused on in particular in Geography was strengthening our think, pair, share.

Whilst we were already doing lots, we’ve tightened the routines around how we facilitate it, and reconsidered a lot about the Qs we ask.

That poster looks amazing - would be great if the RGS could digitise it and make it available for schools to use (with the creator’s permission, of course!)

Same, usually a “this means that…” and “as a result” style approach. Although sometimes I wonder how far removed that is from PEEL?

Not mine, but a friend was once given a full 5 lesson timetable to teach as an “interview”. They definitely just wanted a free teacher for the day 🤣
