The Biden team knew all along that Israel was committing war crimes. Everything they did, they did to enable Israel to continue those crimes.

They put Israel before America, before the law, and before all the values they professed to uphold.

I argue in @RStatecraft that Trump should treat GCC states' rejection of "Iran is the epicenter of regional instability" as an opportunity to retire policies that have kept the US entangled in a region that no longer is vital to US national security.

Israeli soldiers harass a little Palestinian girl and take her bicycle. If soldiers were bullying a child like this in any other country, half of Washington would be calling for military intervention to stop it.

But when Israel does it, the US funds it.

'Germany Is Back' – and That Should Scare Us All
In its crackdown on pro-Palestine speech, Germany has normalized racism and state violence in a way that goes beyond any conflict abroad, reminding us this really is the country of the 1920s, again.

So Israel breaks the ceasefire, and after having killed dozens, including children, declares that the ceasefire is back on.

Under no definition of a ceasefire is this permissible.

As I said at the outset: It will only work if Trump SUSTAINS pressure on Israel.

He isn't.

Oh, how times have changed:

When Ilhan Omar said "It's all about the Benjamins" all hell broke loose.

Now, major voices on all sides say it openly. Here's

OMG!

Jewish-American doctor recounts how Israeli soldiers took two Palestinian children, tied their hands behind their backs, and buried them alive.

"Their cries being muffled by the dirt as it was poured upon them while they were being buried alive."

These were children!

Israel killed their parents. Destroyed their homes. Killed their siblings. It took their feet, sometimes their hands, and even their eyes.

But it could never kill their spirits.

These Gaza children are the survivors of a genocide.

Told @esaagar & @krystalball that it remains unclear whether Trump's openness to talks with Iran is about real diplomacy (ie a workable give-and-take) or whether he is only looking to discuss the terms of Iran's capitulation (which won't work).

Witkoff mentions Netanyahu and the Israeli crowd won't stop booing.

If only Western media had reported that many Israelis blame the prolonged suffering of the hostages on Netanyahu.

Instead, they have uncritically parroted the false line that Netanyahu continued the war TO GET THE HOSTAGES HOME.

This is why those banking on the Israeli "opposition" convince very few...

Told @abc that for Trump's plan to work, he has to break with the pattern of the past and SUSTAIN pressure on Israel. We cannot wait to see if Israel will uphold its end of the deal - Trump needs to use US leverage to make sure that they do. But will he?

I write in @RStatecraft that an overlooked aspect of why Trump decided to push for a Gaza deal is that Israel was increasingly becoming a political burden. Israel’s standing has been tanking among America Firsters.
