The light was not pretty today in the Skagit flats of WA state, but I was out for a while. Here are two photos of Red-Tailed Hawks. In the left photo, there is a mouse in the hawk's left talon. On the right, the hawk was standing on one leg on a post a long way out (1200mm focal length).

These large format acrylic prints are a lot of work. This print is 22" x 40" and is mounted on 1/4" acrylic. The print is first made on a metallic paper substrate, then an optically clear adhesive is bonded to the face of the print, then the print is bonded to the acrylic 1/2

I traveled up to the Skagit flats in WA this afternoon. Too early for the snow geese and the swans, and fall colors haven't really kicked in yet, but it was a beautiful day! (Mt. Baker is the snow covered peak in the photo on the right.

Carl Sagan envisioned an optimistic future in which humans - would find their way - to populate other globes throughout the nearby universe.

Today, perhaps more than ever, we must wonder whether we will, indeed, ever find our way.

Please watch this, with Carl Sagan narrating his own words, and contemplate the deep meaning of this brief passage, and share broadly. A message for our time, and a message for all humans on this Pale Blue Dot we call earth, to hear.

An Anna and a Rufous hummingbird during a brief encounter amongst the Crocosmia Lucifer blooms. A chance encounter, fortunate to have both in the focal plane at the same time!

I am surrounded by beauty, close at hand, just footsteps from my front door and back door. No travel necessary, only the willingness to relax and listen and observe for a short while. Nature comes into my life when I am patient and spend the time to appreciate everything that is close to me.

As I've gotten older, I've grown to realize that many of most beautiful things in life come from simply observing the nature that is within a few footsteps of the front door or back door to my home.

Every day, I am grateful to wake up again, and to be a part of this extraordinary thing we call life, this amazing and beautiful world, a world filled with beauty beyond my comprehension and beyond my understanding. How incredibly fortunate I am.
