I feel that I would probably have let people down slightly more.

Perhaps not such a great loss.

The studio clearly did some buggering about. There's loads cut out, it seems. Ridley is a visionary, beset on all sides by rich simpletons.

Covenant is a lot better than I remembered. I also came across some deleted scenes which drastically improved the cringe scenes. The two scientists, for example, were nowhere near as daft as they seemed.

Yeah. Walter and David having a recorder battle. No London's Burning, though.
David also shows his fallibilty, confusing Byron with Shelley (how embarrassing).

That mahoosive-hugger was born of the goop, prior to David's presumed refinement, once ensconced on the settler ship and armed with a plethora of experimental subjects.

Covenant implies that Alien development was specifically engineered to humans by David.

Whap in a fish finger or two, then you're cooking.

Not a monopoly, true, but they seem to have polished it to a rare shine.

Lari, can I buy direct from the author?

I find this level of naivety charming but not reassuring.

I'm getting an "eject the warp core!" vibe.

Hi Lari, as a teller myself, I've been influenced or inspired by your renderings of a number of stories, Tam Linn and Breaking the Spell, particularly. This new book looks like another for my collection!

Solve the lack of nurses?
Clean up the rivers?
Rebuild the Steel Industry?
Make food cheaper?
Increase bus services in rural areas?
Bridge the attainment gap?
How are deportations going to fix these, Rupert?

While this is probably true, I have my doubts about some of the much-vaunted founding fathers, often praised by presidents.

That's quite an impressive line up. We had Talisk playing at Butefest last year and they were amazingly good. Wish I could come down but that's Solfest weekend. Enjoy!

Conversely, Dan Brown's Da Vinci code has a hilarious opening page. We very quickly find out who the protagonist is, where he is and why he is there in some of the most stage-whispery exposition of all time. Also delightful if for completely different reasons.

May I recommend Salman Rushdie's Haroun and the Sea of Stories for the most delightful, if dialogue-free first few pages of any book I have read?

It was the faux amazement on the judges' faces that turned my stomach. Contempt for the artist, contempt for the audience and contempt for our intelligence. As if they weren't briefed on the details of each contestant...

Thought it was just me ranting that Blur's Girls and Boys was off've Duran Duran's 1st album but apparently: "Rob Sheffield from Spin described the song as "a scrumptiously sleek Duran-gänger, sounding exactly like the Fab Five circa 'Planet Earth' and 'Hungry Like the Wolf'."

Yes, and joining the Camping and Caravanning clubs gives discounted rates and search tools. I'm a big fan. More folk should use them.

Not complete bollox. A campsite is a business, a part of the economy. It would be better if people were shopping in the high street from small, independent shops but then, it would be better if we all did that. Parking in the high street can also be a something of a challenge if you are in a camper.
July 21, 2025 at 7:25 AM
It's a pity if people are being inconsiderate. Campsites aren't everyone's choice though. It's great to pull in, pitch up, charge your batteries, have a shower and contribute to the local economy. I like the simplicity of an Aire camping ground - mid way between campsite and 'wild' camping.
