No longer a "gifted child" and not sure what to do about it
Better in theory than in practice

He seems to be inspiring, and his bow tie is great! I hope there will be more mayors like him

Over 9 miles, wow! I'm trying to get out and walk more, too. I hope one day I'll walk as far as you, that's impressive!

Follow the same rules, politicians, and newscasters, just without the in-depth discussions that could lead to a higher understanding of current events.
*This is all very rough wording, and coming from a small, nondom-based Jesus follower who is very liberal and trying to open up discussions

The divide between these two groups- one with a high focus on morals, but little connection to the rest of America; the other with a high focus on connection, but little interest in morality- is just as intense as the divide between Pro-Trumpers and Anti-Trumpers, and yet, these two groups both

All politicians should be good Christians, and most Anericans are people just like them (oddly enough, most of them are retired or on disability, many are veterans, and most are blue-collar workers; many that I know are in Unions)
Despite this, they don't actually know how Anerica is doing currently

Whereas the smaller, older nondoms that focus on the unjust arrest, trial, and death of Jesus are the media illiterate who, despite mostly growing up during the Cold War, all seem to just intrinsically trust America to always do the right thing and be the good guy. To them, America IS chosen by God

Hammering those cheap nails onto a cross as some sort of edgy, showoff bit is exactly what "megachurch" Trump supporters do- rage-bait, trolling, playing devil's advocate; they want to exist under the label of Christianity, with the safety of community and easy rules to "follow," but don't do the

Is sort of integral to the whole "Good Friday" story. It's an awful Friday, with targeted arrests, an unfair trial, an angry crowd wanting a revolutionary instead of a peacekeeper, and state-sanctioned death sentences being carried out at the end. There's a lot to unpack, but it's not a celebration.

The focus was on shocking the audience, giving them an experience and them letting them loose to enjoy the weekend without any substantial food for thought. Maybe I'm just a bleeding heart liberal, but acknowledging the fact that Jesus was arrested, put on trial, and the people voted against him

This chain-church I attended did not have a sermon so much as it had a reading of the text interrupted by an invitation to those in attendance to join the stage and hammer a nail into a cross. Nails were handed out as people arrived, and pew-by-pew the congregation hammered them in.

The smaller, older, generally nondom churches tend to focus on the honesty and integrity of Jesus. He knew he would be arrested, and yet he didn't run; he knew his trial would be skewed, and yet he stood trial. He did what was right, even when the literal (textual) world was against him.
