New account Oct 2024. Birding in and around Torbay mainly.... done some investigating. Is it or isn't interesting? Birds. Music. Books.
Pleased to find a Turtle Dove today in the more rural part of Brixham whilst looking at how the Skylarks were getting on.
Also a really nice Hobby low and close in the same field and 2 Shelduck flying over with 1 returning from that direction a little later

For historic reasons on this platform. Woodlark nest and eggs in winter sown crop 12/03 Southern England. Unique in this country. It’s now unsuitable to be monitored. Incredible sp. to study. The interaction and behaviour of the nesting birds an absolute privilege to witness. #ukbirding

I’ve spent 10 years of my life studying the breeding behaviour of Anthus Trivalis.

The amazing artwork of @clennonvalley.bsky.social kindly providing the reference for birding Tattooist Tess from Divine Ink Totnes to execute this. Thank you both 💙

Birdwatch subcribers will find an equally useful review in this month's edition by Julian Hough.

Shoalstone Shelter 0900-1100
Best birds were 4 Sooty Shearwaters 1st bird through at 0930 then 3 more in close succession from 1020 (expertly picked out by the newly arrived Ali King - a new bird for him!). Also 2 GND pretty quiet though between these spells #UKbirding

45 mins was all I could manage at the ‘seawatching lounge’ Shoalstone, Brixham this morning 🥶. 1 Arctic Skua coming out of the bay really close to the breakwater and then past the shelter was the best bird. kittiwakes (lots) were passing over the pool. Then 2 Common Scoter close with 4 Purple Sands

Flyover Hawfinch calling this morning at Berry Head with @billmacbirding.bsky.social Mike Langman got it 30 seconds later over the quarry. Pleased to see it at that location. Interesting to hear it give a flight call which I’ve never heard before as opposed to the tick call I have experience with.
