I really think the idea that art has to have "mass appeal" in order to be "good" has done incredible damage to how we create and consume art. Some of my favourite works of art are thoroughly unappealing to a wide audience, I love them because they feel genuine and honest.

This is about Miyazaki but it's true for artists. The work we're passionate about will shine differently than what fits the norm, the standard, the "general audience". We need to do work for *us*, to feed our souls. Those it connects to will respond stronger to it as well
