From a technical point of view - a lot of strategy games have already built these systems for AI to use. Following EU5's lead and exposing them to players is a "free" accessibility win worth exploring

I expect that advanced players will leave most of this off, but I encourage new players who find it daunting to turn some on while you find your feet.
It speaks to a core part of accessibility - providing options, meeting players where they're at. I can have choose the challenge that's most fun

⚖️ Laws, Research, Cabinet, Parliament and more
These are the major sweeping choices that will have a huge impact on your country. You almost definitely want to make these choices yourself.
But, you might find it overwhelming, or simply don't want to due to other game goals. Automate away!

Like with trading, you can tell the game "If I have a surplus of gold, build what you think makes sense for me."
This means that small countries and deliberate decisions can be controlled by you, but large empires don't need micromanaging.

🪖 Army / navy generals
Choosing the best individual to head your army units can provide subtle bonuses, such as better blockading, or cheaper maintenance.
Min-maxers will want to choose these carefully, most of us can automate away a "good enough" choice.

💹 Trade
Trading is incredibly complex, and the best rewards come to those who plan ahead.
You can choose "Automate 80% of my trading for me to get the best immediate deal, I'll manually choose the other 20% to follow my strategy" (say you want paper for your printing presses to increase literacy)

Of course, you can decide to upset your burghers and tax them heavily at any time!
Similar with ⚜️ Army maintenance - why pay for armies when you're at peace? The automation cog sets to 0 at peacetime, and up as needed if war breaks out.

🪙 Balance.
Most of the time, the "best" (least-worst) strategy is to pay all your estates (clergy, burghers, peasants) the smallest amount possible to keep them from being actively unhappy.
This number changes every month. Hitting the cog ensures it's always at just that right level.

EU5 has more mechanics than any other game I've played. It is deep, it is overwhelming, it is intricate - and it lets you opt in to that complexity.
I've been put off complex games before because I simply can't hold so many concepts in my head at once. Let's look at some!

This cold medicine ad & others like it are especially sinister as a razorblade throat is a key symptom of current Covid variants for which many now have no updated booster. You don't endanger others. You sit this one out. At home.

Hot damn that's a lovely garden, looks like you're definitely doing something right!
In which case my entire advice specifically for your allotment changes to "Roll up your sleeves and get to work"

I know you said allotment, not garden - any particular plans or goals? Aiming more towards vegetables etc, a nature meadow, or a manicured garden?

Fantastic space to work with and clearly decent soil! Main advice (if you've not done something like this before) is be consistent, plan ahead, and take your time.
Great gardens take years. Having both long term projects (clearing the grass) and short term (plant immediate color e.g. pansies) helps!
