If you look at his family history, his mother was instrumental in shaping who he is. Some people become hard after tragedy. Illinois, and America, are fortunate that JB became more compassionate. I'm really proud he's my governor.

5/ I'm ashamed of Senator Durbin for his vote, and I'm ashamed of my Congressman, Brad Schneider, for a hell of a lot of reasons. I am looking forward to the primaries next year.

My only hope is that Durbin retires early so Gov Pritzker can appoint a bolder replacement.

4/Trump was the last straw. I actually joined the Democratic party, started working in local politics to try to move my party to the actual left--not just the center-right "left" that chasing the Overton window had gotten us.

Guess what? It didn't work, and now I'm even further left yet again.

Another step left when Obama didn't even consider putting universal healthcare on the table, opting instead to fully cede the floor to the tea party lunatics. I know it wouldn't have passed then, but he didn't even have the conversation. It was a waste.

I don't think mocking and belittling people will move the needle, but "education" isn't going to do that either. They won't listen.

We need people who can inspire the broad middle to picture what we could have with the money we're already spending. The education will accompany that.
