In Cambodia, Lao PDR and Vietnam snares are set by poachers to catch deer and pigs, occasionally catch endangered tigers. In Australia the govt sets snares (drumlines) purposely to catch endangered sharks & kill them! What can be done to stop the illegal killing of marine wildlife (by the QLD govt)?

There is an application here. We can use whale movement data and publicly available vessel movement (AIS) data to create an early warning system giving commercial vessels heads up in real time where high risk areas are for whale strikes. For this we need #Skylight and @earthrangertech.bsky.social

What a super opportunity for the right person. Would happily do my PhD again for the chance to work on the chuditch and to contribute to the knowledge base around impacts of habitat fragmentation and edge effects around mines.
