“Geographic balancing” at NIH sounds like giving money for subpar grants to make politicians in many red states look and feel good. It’s bad for science, bad for our health and bad for the country.

I don’t know all the details, and I do think course descriptions should be accurate and that faculty should be transparent about syllabi &readings. But a university president cannot say that they “support, academic freedom“ while firing someone for what they teach or an erroneous course description.

American science has transformed the world in the last 80 years. There is almost nothing in our modern lives that can’t be traced back to an experiment or engineering project funded by the federal government at our universities. All of it and our future are at risk.
