Running through the musings about buying Greenland, annexing Canada, taking possession of Gaza - even the silliness with rebranding the Gulf of Mexico - is a vision for American expansionism. Yet one more box ticked for this authoritarian Republican regime.

Our bookcases are still loaded with texts and reference works from college and grad school. I've been meaning to declutter them for a while now, figuring all that information would be available and more up-to-date online. As of late, though, I'm not so sure. Maybe I should preserve the hard copies.

It's got to be hard being J.D. Vance right now, what with being the 3rd wheel in the Musk-Trump administration. Maybe he should take up a hobby...like knitting or upholding the constitution.

Being a person with deadly, incurable cancer who is nonetheless still alive for an indefinite timeframe gives me an interesting metaphor that helps me deal with things like large-scale corruption in government or commerce.
