In 2011 my grad student Kirstie Stramler showed that Arctic winter climate fluctuates between cold (transmissive) and warm (opaque) states controlled by the thickness of clouds above. Now Bertossa and L'Ecuyer find that the transmissive state has gone away in Nov., i.e., Nov. is now like Oct.

This is great. My colleague Greg Cesana and I noticed a few years ago that climate models were not reproducing the historical east Pacific SST variation and that it had implications for a moderate vs. high cloud feedback and climate sensitivity. Glad to see more insight into what is going on!

I realize there are much larger issues here, but my God, when the *** NEW YORK TIMES *** has lost the ability to differentiate the use of "reign" from that of "rein" in what it publishes, it and civilization have surely declined.
