Temporarily retired train driver. Cyclist, climber, wandering cat lover, happiest in wild places, occasional fly fisherman. Mostly sensible, occasionally lazy. (Also likes beer.)
Probably cost as much as a lifetime's worth of sustainable public transport too.

Another benefit of EVs: no pool of engine oil under the front of that monstrosity.

Most of them aren’t going to be around in 25 years. The party leadership will be in Dubai and their followers will be six foot under, polluting the rising water table.

Ah, those Nordic evergreens growing in the Palestinian West Bank town of Bethlehem. I can only assume they arrived there on small boats.

Jesus Christ! (And I didn't watch it all...)

Good for him! Not exactly 'parachuted' in, was he?

*over (not never) forty years.

2/2 I don't claim benefits, I'm fit and healthy 🤞, I pay income tax and I am no burden on the state. My income is the pension that I put as much money into as I could afford never forty years. I've voted Labour all my life but I'll vote for a real progressive alternative next time.

I guess I qualify as economically inactive. At the age of 62, as a freight train driver in the north of England, I took voluntary redundancy and my work pension so that younger colleagues wouldn't be forced out of their jobs due to a downturn in work. Others did the same. 1/2

It's been a while since I've watched The Sopranos but, as I recall, it doesn't usually end to well for mob bosses. What goes around comes around.

Very interesting, and hard to ignore for mainstream politicians as the BMJ isn't exactly a radical environmental publication. The difference in 'car acquisition tax' between UK and France is startling. Now I know why I see so few SUVs on French roads!

Tough but fair? How about a pro rata reduction in salary for members of parliament that don't attend their place of employment on work days and an 80% tax band for any that earn more than 50K doing a second job when they should be focussed on their elected position.

Ha! They'll be calling them 'Festive' lights at this rate!

I fuckin' hate Christmas jumpers but if I was going to wear one (which I am absolutely not) it might be that one.

He thinks this stuff is funny doesn't he? It's kindergarten stuff.

I don't think anyone's going to be wanting to move to Texas from NY anytime soon. (For the record, I quite like aspects of Texas but I wouldn't want to go anywhere near the place atm.)
