Our FY2026 budget proposal expands this work by funding an additional 7 positions to allow the Public Defender to broaden outreach & respond to more cases.

Earlier this year, the County Board authorized the Office of the Public Defender to represent Cook County residents appearing before immigration courts outside of Cook County.

This project demonstrates what’s possible when federal, state & local governments work together for the good of our residents.
 
Cook County has invested $78M in this project and $119M in the CREATE program overall. Work continues & Cook County will remain a dedicated partner every step of the way.

My father served in World War II in the U.S. Army; I grew up with a deep respect for those who wear the uniform. Service requires true commitment, discipline and courage. Supporting and uplifting veterans remains a key priority for Cook County.

Beaubien Woods' shoreline amenities allow visitors to gather, rest and enjoy the prairie's native plant life. The newly-built accessible boat launch allows visitors of all abilities to enjoy a day on the river.

In a nation as wealthy as ours, no one should go hungry because of political gamesmanship or government inaction. Cook County will continue to work closely w/ local partners like the Greater Chicago Food Depository to ensure access to food and support during this difficult time.

Food insecurity is not an abstract policy issue. It is a painful reality that too many of our neighbors live with every day. The interruption to this lifeline is both unacceptable & avoidable. It places an unbearable burden on working families, seniors & kids who already struggle to make ends meet.
