It can be aspirational for regular kids, but for scions of an interrupted line of Harvard legacy admissions who grow up with famous people showing up to their parents’ dinner parties it can be a dangerous thing.

Some people are irretrievably lost to tactical thinking and can't deal with losing individual skirmishes to advance greater goals. Republicans have lost damn nigh every individual skirmish over the last decades but in the process shifted the playing field to their advantage.

Or maybe we can just ditch the entire elite as a class thing. If we want to keep the term as a descriptor of people who do certain things in society, fine. But it shouldn't be a thing anybody fundamentally 'is'.
