Nipped down to the hides for a while this evening where two Hobbies spent the whole time sat on the grass on Simmonds', terrific to see. Also a few Cattle Egrets, Wood Sand, 9 Green Sands, juvenile islandica, decent number of juvenile Ruffs & 2 Med Gulls.

First Swallow here in Star of Markinch. To see one already in Fife, four days earlier than my Sussex average over the last twenty five years, is quite indicative of the shift in the seasons! But great to see them back and the weather is set to be fair for more on arrival 😁

31st of March sees the close of the winter bird surveying season and in 15c conditions, it couldn’t have felt any less wintery up in Fraserburgh today.
A wonderful mix of farmland birds, waders and wildfowl, including a flyover of 12 Golden Plover. Also to note, Sycamore breaking leaf already!!!

Cleaning out the Tree Sparrow nest boxes before the beginning of April and look at the mass of material bought in to one box by a pair, in a single season!!!
