Local wildlife guides Pablo Luna and Darío Soraire were boating on the Bermejo river when they saw Nalá, the second female jaguar released in El Impenetrable National Park by Rewilding Argentina, and her 5-month-old cub!

The huemul is one of the world’s 20 priority species to help restore critical ecosystems, according to Ecography. This highly endangered species is on the brink of extinction- it has lost 99% of its population to hunting and habitat loss over the last centuries.

Amphibians’ sensitivity to changes in temperature, humidity, and water quality makes them true indicators of ecosystem health. Protecting them is essential to preserving the balance of the forests, rivers, and wetlands they inhabit.

Amphibians are the most threatened group of vertebrates on the planet and are especially vulnerable to climate change. According to the IUCN Red List, over 40% of amphibian species worldwide are classified to be at some level of risk of extinction.

In 2024, Rewilding Chile launched their Amphibian Monitoring Program in Pumalin. Since then, their team of scientists have explored the lush rainforest and found an incredible variety of amphibians. Check them out!
