We have the technology to build this symbiotic system today - one that could distribute resources equitably, respond rapidly to needs, and work in harmony with natural systems. The blueprint is right beneath our feet in the forest floor. We just need the courage to grow it.

The mycorrhizal model shows us that cooperative models are natural and create flourishing, resilient systems. When resources flow freely through the network, the whole ecosystem thrives. An economy built on similar principles could regenerate rather than extract.

We’ve already seen glimpses of this potential - Project Cybersyn in Chile created a real-time economic nervous system connecting factories and distribution. Modern tech could take this so much further, creating dynamic networks that match resources to needs like mycelium does in nature.

The forest’s fungal internet doesn’t prioritize the 1% of trees - it optimizes for collective forest health. When trees are stressed or seedlings need help, the network redirects nutrients and sends warning signals. Imagine an economy that similarly prioritizes community wellbeing.

Just like mycelial networks connect up to 90% of plants in a forest through an underground “Wood Wide Web”, a cybernetic economy could create an intelligent resource distribution system linking production and needs across society. Nature’s been perfecting this for 500+ million years.

But what do we do now? How do we integrate this new realm of consciousness such that our society can change course and avoid the cliff we are collectively sleepwalking towards?

Painfully relevant. What can we do to combat these trends?

Yeah I could see that being effective fs

Emphasizing freedom from work and drudgery via automation would be a big part of it. Also would include a focus on how life can be full of meaning in contrast with the void most people feel today.
