I’m assuming political scientists with actual research will actually post about this with evidence, but extreme gerrymanders only matter as long as variables are stable. With more drastic public opinion shifts and a public reacting to detrimental policies, calculation for marginal wins is an anchor.

It’s a real loss that people don’t regularly talk about why diversity has been a strength for this country throughout its history. Mostly, you just hear “diversity is good.” You don’t hear about the Navajo code talkers, cultural soft power, economic resilience, or ideological identity.

When governments decide to operate extrajudicially and quell peaceful protests violently, is it a surprise when they are resisted extrajudicially with violence? Most people are not extremists. Most people don’t want violence. A functional democratic process is so important to peace.
