Nestled between the Samurai exhibit and the Leadership Reimagined exhibit at ncartmuseum.org, I found this gem by Dan Estabrook (www.danestabrook.com)

My modern day tasseography says it’s going to be a bleak year, people having lost hope by the second day.

I see a lot of discussions about safety, but they tend to be centered around user experience. Is anyone discussing the architecture and design, and how that relates to safety?

Imagine you are going to revolutionize restaurant supply. You invent a new way to get restaurants ingredients, tableware, tools, etc. To show it off, you set up a demo restaurant. And because you do logistics and not food service, people eat there and get good poisoning. This is basically Bluesky.

I'm currently frustrated because there are things I want to talk about related to Bluesky and decentralized networks and related to what is happening right now, but I don't want to make it seem like I'm defending Bluesky in any way. 😞

Anyone know how many people work at Bluesky? Glancing across the repos I'm seeing 5-6 steady contributors, so I'm guessing less than 20 people?

Is Bluesky quiet now because EST is just getting started or did people actually leave?

If you're getting annoyed by the conversation about safety and POC on this app, or think that Bluesky shouldn't have to deal with this issue as they focus on lower level tech, remember that you are experiencing a fraction of the pain and labor put on POC and other groups every day.

Just glancing at the code:

* "fuck" has been blocked since Nov 11, 2022. (commit 8982e13f.)

*  Bluesky protected businesses and celebrities on Feb 9th, 2023. (commit a3c1105a.)

*  The first (and flawed) attempt to protect actual people was Jul 13th, 2023. (commit 3d47eed.)

Not that I actively use it, but I finally got around to downloading my twitter data archive and setting my account to private. Now I'll just lurk and not post here.

A core tenet of good tech is that we can _reason_ about it. And a common pattern of abusers is that they act inconsistent & unreasonable. That's why it's a giant red flag that AI hype is about systems that we can't even reason about. https://www.anildash.com/2023/06/08/ai-is-unreasonable/

Thank you for writing a response more succinct than I would have and saving me a ton of time.

Just saw the first person I follow on twitter show up here. Anyone have a good strategy for matching people up?

People on social media: GPT-4 is going to change the world, create 100x developers, and make all knowledge work obsolete and automated.

Also people on social media: $20 / month is too much, so here are work sounds through intermediaries to get it for free.
