How it started vs how it’s going. Artists are magic. Shout out to Chris he doesn’t use social media but his cover is incredible and I can’t wait to see it in physical form.

14. MINIBX by @lucasttrpg.bsky.social stands out from the bx legacy crowd not by setting or flavor, but mechanical innovation. Its dice chain system is something truly different. Text also includes designer notes, smth I’d like to see more often. (Also peep the @maguax.bsky.social layout!)

13. Frontier Scum by @makedatanotlore.bsky.social is a cowboy borg hack with guns that feel as deadly as they should be. The book also feels like nothing else, a raw hardback with exposed binding, filled with fake advertisements that construct the world around you as you read the rules.

12. Print Weaver by @nlmorrison.bsky.social - a soulslike where you build your character based on your real human fingerprints? Hell yeah. And it’s beautiful to look at to boot. Side note, I’m having fun using this thread to find designers I like on bsky I haven’t followed yet.

11. Eat the Reich by @gshowitt.bsky.social however, does do something similar to Nest, a beautiful book where again, the campaign is the game, but it feels different to me for reasons I should interrogate. But any game about vampires killing Nazis is a win in my books, being gorgeous is just a bonus

10. Nest by @gilarpgs.bsky.social takes a design approach to campaigns I don’t think I’ve seen elsewhere, tight, focused and incredibly finite. The game and its campaign are one, it’s a game with a purpose, one it will fulfill, then you can move on to the billion other games out there.

9. Blood Borg by @worldchamp.bsky.social presents a unique take on the hidden vampire world genre, where the influence they have is reflected in the very shape of the city they reside in. It also has fun connections to Mork Borg, and makes me wonder if the two could be string together.

8. Daisy Chainsaw by Charlotte Laskowski is a grid based tactical magical girl game. A beautiful book of pixel bloodshed and flashy weapons. It feels good to read and I believe it’ll play the same.

7. Death Game by @laurieoc.bsky.social , featuring art by the legend @hodagrpg.bsky.social takes on the battle royale genre. Battle royales FEEL like they should be perfectly suited for TTRPGs, but are, in practice, logistical hells. A game that’s designed specifically to run a BR is a win for me.

6. Nightcrawlers by Tanner Yea. Splatterpunk OSR goodness. The underdog drama of an Anarch VtM Chronicle mixed with a greater variety of beasties to be. Also includes a table for generating band names and music genres.

5 is Down and Out in Dredgeburg by @skullfungus.bsky.social. This charmed me immensely when I picked it up on itch in 2022, and I just found a hard copy. I’d like to run it one day as half of a nonchronological campaign, one playing towards its doom, and the other slowly remembering their downfall

Number 4 is Rae Nedjadi’s Once More Into the Void, where the captain of a starship reunites their fractured found family to save the galaxy, one last time. I’m fascinated by minigame format of ttrpgs that I have little experience with, and it seems perfect for a short campaign.

@alexandersheep.bsky.social’s Micro Circuts is a lean, mean, OSR Battlebot machine (ma-zine?) which inspired me to write an adventure, but I really do need to play/run it some so the adventure can be what we in the biz call “usable” and “fun”

Next, @7daneasmund.bsky.social ‘s Zoetrope: Death Didn’t take, was pitched to me as a game about “the mall cops of time travel”, and that sold me. The physical cards it uses for its game elements make it an in person only joint, but one I hope I can explore soon.

First, something co created by the first person to like this post (only pandering a little I swear), @naldodrinan.bsky.social and @greywizard.bsky.social’s BREAK!!! comes with a sleek visual design that makes me feel like I’m reading the definitive strategy guide for a ps1 jrpg never made.

The story of my #BigBadCon in 4 days. Traded my zine, Magica Mechanica, in exchange for “something”. Distributed 63 copies. More details to come. If we traded, hmu with a reminder of what you gave me for a pdf copy.
