In what world with the R's EVER let the D's claim that they "won?" The big deal will be that the shutdown is over, the D's caved, and the R's will just blame them when the shit hits the fan in a few weeks. They won't admit anything about what they want, they'll just call it "playing politics"

Everyone holds positions that don't match 100% to the organized left-right spectrum. I am a strong supporter of nuclear power which here in the US has long been a bogeyman to the political left, but my frustration with my fellow lefties hasn't yet made me feel ANY commonality with racists.

I might be the one conflating, but his constant arguments on Gazan genocide seems to be the exact same: according to some definition of "genocide" Gaza is not a genocide, and the danger of calling it that is to lessen the power of that word when it needs to be applied to "full" or "real" genocides

So he really wants to make sure we don't call the government "fascist", just "authoritarian" or maybe "broken." Or Israel's possibly flirting with "ethnic cleansing" but it's not technically "genocide." Can we put as much effort towards defining the government or Israel? No, we can't and he won't.

these terms (yet) and that if we use them prematurely then those pursuing these goals will be able to abuse our misunderstanding once were actually closer to them. AND YET he has NO interest in accurately defining where we are right now with similar specificity to these terms. /2

It's such a subtle dig, but I love how the final obituary for Nelson by a major newspaper uses the term "Mormon," which he used a ton of energy to try and kill once he obtained his leadership role by outliving previous Prophet-Presidents. Nelson would have HATED that.

Under Nelson a rejection of focus on peculiarities of doctrine was made, focusing instead on similarities to US Evangelical Protestantism, focusing on grace and Jesus (not bad things) & an even HIGHER attention to US Evangelical culture war items like porn and especially anti-gay & anti-trans.

Good Mormons celebrated the change as revelation: it became a cultural marker of your faithfulness as a Mormon on how strenuously you rejected that term and told others to stop using it. Now that the only energy behind this has died the cultural pendulum will quickly swing back to not mind its use.

For non-insiders, Nelson always hated the nickname, and once he became Prophet-President one of his first revelations was that God was very insistent on using the Correct Name of the Church (TCoJCoLdS). Even though previous Prophets had fully embraced the term it was now perceived as a "slur."

I completely trust The Blaze to fully report that such a statement was made as much as I completely trust them to report if the other protesters quickly told their fellow loud-mouth compatriots to shut the hell up and tried to pull them away or if everyone else just shrugged silently.

I always encourage everyone to keep thoughtful and respectful voices that disagree with them on Bluesky to provide diverse viewpoints. This troll is most definitely NOT thoughtful nor respectful. You never have to keep the trolls talking to prevent an echochamber, so for me this guy is now muted!

We're NEVER going to solve the climate crisis through personal bike riding and buying local without ALSO solving the massive systemic issues present in big oil, big agro, and shipping/transportation, which can only be done in legal regulatory ways that cut deeply into their profit margins.

Generally calling the cops on ICE is not a good idea because they'll claim they're following their rules by detaining people, but in this case there is no legal footing or precedent for their actions. So, yeah, call the cops!

Every new justice just dilutes the power of the rest accordingly. Instead of the court being swayed by 2-3 weirdos the number of weirdos versus normal people needed rises. Even conservative judges, if normal, are preferable to what we currently have. Eventually the SC will become normalized
