Have you seen our Policy Principles yet?

Transparent principles make us publicly accountable - you can see a policy is a poor fit and highlight an issue!

Politics shouldn’t be about playing games, it should be about envisioning and creating a better future!

Things can’t change if people keep voting for the same-old options every election.

Alternative options can’t get big enough to be voted for if people don’t get involved in politics in between elections.

We need “busy” people who know how things work to be involved - it can be better.

Join a party, join ANY party.

It’s the only way we’re all getting out of this together.

You don’t have to commit to one party exclusively, or always stay in one place.
Toxic cultures exist in all parts of society, and politics is no different. Some places can be fixed by new people, some can’t. So you move on if you can’t vibe with a place.

But move ON, not move out 🧵

But what I’m begging you to do - is shop around.

If a party you join is annoying or tiresome, don’t just withdraw - switch to another!

The only way to both preserve our democracy and survive the challenges of today is for people to get involved and *stay* involved 🧵

And yeah, sometimes it’s boring, and sometimes it feels like it’s overly bureaucratic, and sometimes you run into people with large egos who are very annoying.

And this is normally when people who try to get involved instead disengage 🧵

Politics on all fronts is broken because it’s mostly filled with the extremists, the desperate, the lonely, and the outliers.

It’s not representative, because the people it should represent aren’t actually involved.

Regular people joining parties is essential to healthy politics 🧵

…b) vastly more people need to join political parties and actually get involved, at least a little bit.

Now, obviously I’m a vested interest here, it says right in my bio that I’m President of the Fusion Party…

But I genuinely don’t care which parties ya’ll join. 🧵

Unfortunately, activism is generally done by non-profits, which have to be apolitical to retain their tax status.

So the only real solutions require either a) all similar activist organisations to get together in some sort of system where they can coordinate to stay on message…
Or 🧵

So, even if we have parties of the willing, they often lack both a) people who can solve, and b) people who can filter the noise for solutions others have made.

Which makes politics seem even worse and further discourages people from getting involved. So, what can be done? 🧵

The people who can and want to work on solutions see the lack of solutions in politics and get involved in organising activism, which does produce solutions, but adds to the noise that makes it harder for parties, and simultaneously removes these people from being able to help parties make choices 🧵

When parties lack the internal resources to solve problems, and can’t work out who to trust externally without getting shredded in the media, solutions are very hard to come by - and those that do get brought up, are very, very unlikely to get implemented well.

And it’s a catch22 🧵

But the problem we have today, is that political parties have record low membership levels.
So they are genuinely short on people to actually work on solutions, particularly to complex problems that require serious effort.

And vested interests flood the media with confusion, sowing distrust 🧵

There are 3 parts to making change happen.
1. Awareness and understanding
2. Acknowledgment and willingness
3. Solving and implementing

Awareness activism is good at achieving #1 really well.
And it does an ok job of getting #2 across the line.

As long as the willing can solve, it works 🧵

There’s a difficult conversation we need to have about activism.

Awareness Activism is great, I’ve done plenty of it, and it’s excellent for raising awareness of poorly understood issues, this is fine and well.

However, there’s a catch 🧵

The most common objection we get to nuclear energy is, "What about the waste?"

We’re always happy to tell people that we ❤️ nuclear waste.

Small volumes, safely stored and managed, and naturally reducing over time. But the best part is, it’s not waste at all - watch to find out why.
Let's not waste nuclear 'waste'. #FuelForTheFuture

But to do that, we need to lift the ban on nuclear. Act now.

Australia's anti-nuclear movement still hasn’t learned that The Simpsons isn’t real.

Their latest stunt featured a giant inflatable three-eyed fish, straight out of the show. In the real world, nuclear energy is a proven source of clean, reliable power that can help us achieve our climate goals.
