Cats, crafts, plants, horrors. Now with school ranting. Whatever you're expecting, it's probably more boring than that
Alex came to me when he was 13-ish and he's 17-ish now. He will let me rub his ears like a safety blanket and cuddle him like a teddy bear when I sleep. He also licks constantly, if that's your thing.

It was a good day for a hike

First fruit leather of the season! Crabapple and muscadine grape purees, and honey!
November 6, 2025 at 5:00 PM
This is all juice for jam. I need help.

Argh. Still streaky! I'm worried my scanner is just busted, because i can't see any streaks on the negatives.
October 31, 2025 at 4:39 PM
All right, reassembled. These screws are a lot smaller than I was expecting. I should probably have had my phone/laptop set instead of the general crafting one. Also, the complaint department wants everyone to know I'm being flagrantly neglectful by cleaning the scanner
October 31, 2025 at 4:03 PM
Oh no reassembling. Everything's at a stylish angle. I might be in trouble
October 31, 2025 at 3:55 PM
Oops, forgot the picture
October 31, 2025 at 3:43 PM
All right, that was almost frighteningly easy. Also the little puff of dust that came out when I loosened each screw.

About to embark on a risky endeavor

Jessica hasn't even caught the murderer yet, and I'm all done!

(I always love how much crabapple pulp looks like ground chicken lol)
October 29, 2025 at 4:19 PM
It's food mill time! Smooshed crabapples go in, apple puree comes out, and the seeds stay in the mill. No electricity, just elbow grease and a good show (Murder She Wrote)

I got my persimmons set up for air drying last night. Later on in the season, when we get ones to the store that have a chance of ripening before rotting, I'll put a bunch into the dehydrator. These ones stay too hard to eat but should work for air drying.
October 28, 2025 at 1:16 PM
And then into the drink again! I cook the apples with a bit of water to soften them and extract their juice. The juice is so amazingly pink I love it.
October 27, 2025 at 6:45 PM
Put on a movie or show and get to cutting. I don't chop up all the apples, it's not vital to remove every brown bit as long as I get most of them. I've been doing this enough that I kind of get a feel for which ones I need to check
October 27, 2025 at 6:45 PM
It's also important to have helpers. Alex-cat is telling me apples are dumb and I should be petting kitties instead. Then he bit my hair.
October 27, 2025 at 6:45 PM
He's my crabapple processing setup. I use hobby nippers to cut the apple stems and to dig out the withered bits of old flower at the bottom. The knife is for spot removal and random checks
October 27, 2025 at 6:45 PM
Anyway, here is my first haul getting a good wash. I'm really lucky and there's a tree near me that produces these almost-golfball sized apples. I will eat some out of hand while I'm picking, in a good year.
October 27, 2025 at 6:45 PM
I processed my first bit of crabapples this morning! Crabapples are great little fruits that a lot of people overlook nowadays
October 27, 2025 at 6:45 PM
I love the color of this juice though
October 27, 2025 at 1:52 PM
My juice extracting setup is top-notch
October 27, 2025 at 1:23 PM
Little bit too much water in the mochi rice this time. I think if I do an overnight soak (versus a one hour soak) I need to use slightly less than 1:1 water.
October 25, 2025 at 6:04 PM
Today's morning bunny rabbit is taking a nap
October 24, 2025 at 4:09 PM
Anyway, have some super close ups of little fish, who is still here (for now). I almost fell like I should put him through a round of antibiotics just on principle.
October 15, 2025 at 3:38 PM
This is him from last night. I've marked him "adult" so hopefully people who don't want to see a sick fish don't have to
