Bedaubed by Aunt Peggy in the glory of the Telestial Kingdom. Mormon by heritage, if not by devotion. Friend to the "snakes in the pews." https://tokensandsigns.org
Pretty sure this one will get deleted.

They promoted Waddell to Presiding Bishop? The 60 Minutes guy! Really!?

You could replace woman with an LDS sister missionary promoting the Book of Mormon and the resulting video would still have the exact same vibe. I know because my feed is full of them.

The training provided by the church is woefully inadequate, and not supported by any kind of institutional structures. The church still fights against mandatory reporting legislation and still shields abusers from legal accountability. What hasn't changed: their words do not match their actions.

Some would argue that church leaders (again the "lay clergy" scapegoat) are not "misusing" the help line to divert abuse accusations away from law enforcement because that is precisely how the system is designed to operate. That was the focus of the AP's reporting.

This bit also falls a little flat. The church never "formally endorsed" conversation therapy, but countless ecclesiastical leaders formally pushed members to organizations like Evergreen and North Star to receive conversation therapy. "Lay clergy" is oft a scapegoat for institutional accountability.

Notable that Oaks did not make any corrections here. Again, I wouldn't lose a bet on where he lands on this matter. Bet there's a number of men with electrode-induced sexual trauma who wouldn't lose that bet either.

Celestial genocide of queer people may not be "official doctrine" only because official doctrine is a elusive and hazy concept in the LDS faith. Which is weird for a church that preaches one of the miracles of the Restoration is increased clarity on matters of doctrine via continuing revelation.

Lots of light pollution in Lincoln NE but we could still see them faintly with the naked eye. The phone camera obviously brings it out a lot more.

The video that sparked this discussion is pretty representative, in my experience. We're pretty good at taking care of our own, most the time, and often with strings attached. Not so much the wider community.

Palm Sunday and Holy Week are officially on the LDS schedule for 2026. I wonder when they will get around to updating the Topics and Questions on the website and Library app.

And the message of secret meanings intended just for those in the know is repeated near the end of the chapter. He says one thing to the public, those with receptive ears will catch his meaning, and those in the movement are explained the full message. This is clandestine revolution stuff.

The next two parables presented could be interpreted as instructions and encouragement to his followers: "Now is not yet the time of action (the harvest), but the time of growing and waiting. What you're doing now may seem a small thing, but it will have a big impact. Be prudent and be patient."

Next is presented the lamp under a bushel basket. Jesus is basically saying, "You who have received our message, you are called to action. Spread the word. Prove your worth and your commitment to the cause and more information will be given to you."
November 6, 2025 at 4:19 PM
He tells his disciples, "You guys are in the know. For those outside the movement, it is a riddle. Those who have ears to hear will understand my meaning, and those who do not will not understand what we're doing here."

If you are thinking of donating to a food bank or little free pantry, here is a good list of helpful items. Also note that personal hygiene items like toothpaste, tampons, or deodorant will also be in demand.

Maybe don't follow the prophet on this one and follow Jesus instead.

In the temple, of all places.

Comparing the availability of under 200-year-old documents composed in the modern era to nearly 2000-year-old documents composed in antiquity to claim the superior transparency of the LDS church is profoundly stupid. Apples and oranges doesn't even begin to describe it.

Dear Dallin Oaks, here's an incredible chance for a big PR win for your church. You can make it happen.

Softly walking back the apologetic argument that the revelation on polygamy was received in 1831?

Remember, these guys were also big promoters of Mormonism's peculiar brand of white supremacy.

He was also arrested. But I don't know if that makes him worthy of respect. He wasn't a great guy.
