This is true. I was in an eco-lodge not long ago in the Peruvian Amazon & saw a few baby sloths in a village. I asked about the mothers & was told the tribesmen kill the mothers so tourists can hold the babies. Really takes the joy out of traveling when you realize you’re part of the problem.

Ah. So, the plant-based food you’re talking about is the ultra-processed stuff? Now I see your point.

Have you tasted meat raw? Without spices? What is the flavor?

She’s braver than most, that’s for sure.

I got through half the clip before my rage boiled over. I cannot adequately describe my loathing.

I was named for this song - although it was the Charlie Parker version my dad was in love with.

I have the smaller relative at home. Can also be lethal!

Really glad to read this. I felt depressed just 10 min ago after reading a comment thread posted to a vegan chocolate cake recipe in the NYT, where patronizing commenters tried to convince the article’s writer (Cara Buckley) that vegan diets are terrible for the environment & human health.

My cat D’Arcy thinks I can’t see him when he hides at night behind the drapes.

I have all the MASH seasons on DVD. Blake is my fav character. When I watched the episodes as reruns in my 20s, I sobbed when he died. His line delivery made me laugh out loud, but later — I’m always deeply moved. Remember when he said, “If anybody needs me, I won't be anywhere”? God. I loved him.

His use of the word “servants” tells you that he’s a sophist. He cannot help himself. He lies and knows he lies.

This exchange reminded me of my brother-in-law who — literally every time he sees me — tells the same tired anti-vegan joke, even though I’ve not even mentioned food. I just want to say, I related to Fagatha Christie’s original post. It’s so lovely to eat in a vegan restaurant!

This is a great point for 19th century books. I have a few, and it freaks me out.

I read the article, and it was the part about her desperate need for money to save up for braces that did me in.

Still. Who the H-E-DoubleToothpicks are these republicans who “approve”? Just freaks me out.

Oooh. I’m going to make this, and sub out the butter for plant butter b/c I don’t eat dairy. What a great way to use up a jar of molasses in my cupboard!!

Here is my dad. Class of 1956. Rest in peace.

I’m vegan, and I’m NOT inspired to do a raw diet. It’s unsustainable. You can’t eat beans or lentils raw, and they’re great sources of protein and fiber. I’ll settle for lunchtime raw salads.
