Fresh out of the pressure pot and not yet painted, these dice are for those who know they're getting screwed by the RNG anyway. Took a chance with the colors, but man they came out pretty.

(These are acrylic screws, spray painted. They do not perceptibly affect the roll of the dice.)

A batch of dice on the way to the polisher, getting ready for the Maker Market. All of these are...unusual. 😁

Finally I've acquired it- the legendary Die of Many Dings.

(I made this! If you're in the Bay Area you can buy one at the Maker Nexus Holiday Maker Market on December 6!)

I took 45 of the pins to the party and gave out 32 of them. So many people were excited to solve and interested to talk about stuff like competitive puzzling.

I also got some awesome trinkets from the other attendees, and won a small lantern for finishing the scavenger hunt. Best Halloween ever!

But it really took off and everyone had a great time! I got to make a bunch of new friends and flex my hint-giving muscles. My favorite part was pulling one of the feathered pencils off my jacket shoulder and saying "Ow! You'll need this."

(Not pictured, the 10-year-old who solved super fast.)

I was honestly afraid that this was a silly idea to bring to a party, so I brought along my carnivorous plant for emotional support.

Everyone who solved would get the real trinket, a 3D printed Puzzle Coven membership pin.

There were two different versions of the puzzle, a one star easy version and a three star midrange version. In the end I feel like they were both very close in difficulty.

@mjandersen.bsky.social and my coworkers at Maker Nexus helpfully playtested for me. <3

To earn my trinket, you would have to solve an original puzzle I designed. I got the idea after seeing a cool way to bind maps at the American Bookbinders Museum. You would need to fold the puzzle in different ways to solve it.

For Halloween this year I was going to a party with a scavenger hunt and trinket trading, both very good prospects for the nerdiness of the crowd. So I decided to go as Urban Fantasy Puzzle Witch.

I was going to find people to induct into my Puzzle Coven!

Been experimenting with designing some 3D printed pins (seen here without the pin backs). Would yall buy something like this or is it metal and enamel or bust?
October 22, 2025 at 7:29 PM
I binded it.

My @desertbus.org Craftalong item / lovingly handcrafted buspost of a dice set is ready! Will post a full suite of photos sometime before DB. For now you'll just have to imagine the dice shenanigans going on in this box.

Not every puzzle hunt comes with the opportunity to meet a good doggo. Well done, DASH 12 SF team!

I don't think anything I see at a theme park will quite match the strange whimsy of the Tonga Room in SF, with its boat-bound band and artificial rainstorms.

They also make a pretty decent Zombie, which enhances the experience.

Finally getting my extra hour in the ballpit!

Came to Smugglers Cove SF for the first time in a decade. The bouncer and I chatted about Desert Bus. #cozy #yarr

A safety sticker from one of many Prusa MK3S's I've torn down over the course of the 3D printer lab upgrade. I'm putting it on my laptop as a warning to future troublemakers: extrude right or I'll turn you into a better version of yourself.

Thank you! It was part of a workshop with the NorCal Haunters but I've been sprucing it up with extra paint and props. I love the Fake Pumpkin Arts <3

My man eating plant is finished for now, I think. The big leaves are made from upholstery leather and wired so i can sculpt them into nice shapes.

Uh oh it's germinated.

Man I love being part of the NorCal Haunters. We had a workshop on man eating plants this weekend, and I got to build this welcoming friend for my living room!

Been cooking up a set of unusual dice, some with miniatures inside. Today's inclusion: Tiny books!

Spent another lovely afternoon at the American Bookbinders Museum making a buttonhole stitch book! This is a totally new stitch for me but it was pretty easy to do and the design is so striking.
