I'm an old ghost from distant lands, haunting a meat-machine made out of recycled stardust. My interests include, but are not limited to... :-)
Apparently accurate:

Kent, Ohio today... :-) Thousands of peaceful No Kings protesters on Main St. Wonderful weather to say Hello to the neighbors. :-)

Cheese # 1 is divided, waxed, and aging. Cheese #2 is drying, covered with salt.

Cheese update. We cut off a bit to taste it, and declared it delicious. I cut it into chunks and dipped it in soft wax; now it will sit for a few weeks in the coldest room in the house...

I was in this conversation a few days ago...

I scored 3 gallons of close-date whole milk for $1.00 each and made cheese. It came out to 3# 13oz. Next couple weeks daily flipping and salting as it dries. Not sure if I'm going to wax it or not; I had a sliver and it was good. I used yogurt for the culture...

7 half-pints, 16 pints water-bath canned; 2 half-pints and 2 pints (already spoken for) still "live". Cabbage is high in Vitamin C, and sauerkraut was used on early sailing ships to prevent scurvy when fresh fruit wasn't available... Canning kills the probiotics, but the vitamin C isn't hurt.

Not my idea, but a great one... :-)

More Ham Radio... I'm re-designing my low-power "exciter", so I laid out all of the "spares" and wired them together for tweaking (before I make changes to the semi-working one I already have). After doing all of the "dummy load" tests, I connected it to the antenna. I made a 300 mile contact... ;-)

I may have already posted this, but I think it needs repeating:

Emptied each into a large bowl, turned it well, then re-packed. Very tasty at this point; lots of liquid. Probably canning next week or so.

IYKYK: You have to move the 160m coil out of the way to replace the tank coil on a DX-100... The styrene in the original was baked; found one from a cadaver on eBay. Transplant complete. One more item off the checklist. I haven't found a way to clean the copper plating without scratching it off.

Keeping busy; the 2 on the left were started a few days earlier and you can see the color difference. All 3 quietly bubbling. :-)

Solar works great in the cold, but better if the panels are clear of snow... :-) I have 2 of them up on milk crates; I need to raise the other 2 sections.

The 24V solar-powered electric brick heater, Version 1. Puts out 105F air. Has 2 bricks for thermal mass. Plugs into my standard 24V extension cord from the batteries. It's an off-the-shelf window defroster-booster. Draws about 9A, so it's about 200W. Experiments... :-)
