I edited How High during lockdown and through the deaths of both of my father and grandmother. That book (and oddly virtual reality fishing) was the only thing keeping me together. Writing through chaos gave me a conduit to “talk to” and puzzle together a future when I was otherwise silent.
For other people like me who are 1) trying to write thru absolute catastrophic real worldness 2) because writing is the thing they do for a living &/or for sanity 3) I want to send my love out to you, because this shit is is like writing through an infinite loop brutal divorce.

Every time you don't buy a book from Amazon, but use a good indie store who actually values the sale & treats you & your purchase with respect, the sun shines brighter, floofy puppies gambol in fresher grass, & Jeff Bezos's piles sting for just a biiiit longer.
Sounds GREAT to me.
Buy independent.

So, with everything going on in the world, especially lately, do other artists, writers, and creative people find it hard to focus on your work? How do you tune out the noise? I’d love to hear how others are doing it! (I’ve not been able to so far!)

Like many others, I migrated here from The Other Place. I’m a fiction writer, editor & teacher based in N. Illinois/Chicago and looking to connect with other writers, artists, creators, and decent people.
