And I'm left wondering about the 1904 baby - is there a child who lived, born between 1899 & 1904? Was the family so shattered by these back to back losses that they couldn't keep trying for kids for a few years, just to have that baby die the same day they were born?

How does a person survive it?

What i find the most heartbreaking here are the kids who died in 1898 & 1899 - this family lost a ten-day-old infant, and then mom pretty promptly carried another baby to term, who then died before 4 months of age. Two infant funerals in less than two full years.

YES! That series is a delight. I'm a bit undecided on the 4th, but the first 3 are 5-star reads.
