Red & Rude presents the Zine Guest Intros. Here we introduce ThePeak (she/her), a Guest Writer for the zine. Bio: "My love of TMNT is almost as old as TMNT itself! I watched the 1987 cartoon as it aired on TV, and I once rocked the sickest Raph Halloween costume the early 90s had to offer. I reconnected with the turtles briefly in my 20s with the release of the IWD comics, but I drifted away from fandom for years to focus on my career like a lame, boring adult. Then Mutant Mayhem hit me like a turtle tank, and I’ve been happily back to the sewers ever since! I’m currently writing a Mutant Mayhem fic called Reciprocity on Ao3!" Their writing sample is the following: "The new guy plopped down at the lunch table directly across from Raph, who braced for the usual ‘human meeting a mutant for the first time’ awkwardness to begin. Suddenly, Casey’s eyes widened. “Heeey, we’re twins!” Raph hastily swallowed the bite he’d just taken, coughing a little as he choked out “what?” Casey chuckled and hooked a finger into his lip, pulling it up to reveal a single missing tooth. Without removing his finger, he smiled and attempted to speak. “Missin’ toof twins.” The laugh that tore out of Raph was so unexpected that he nearly hacked up the bit of pizza he’d just swallowed. I’m sitting in front of my CRT TV, Barbie in one hand, probably a yogurt in the other. On the screen: my first ever episode of the TMNT. I am enlightened. Fast forward to 2012. I’m waiting for the premiere of the new pilot. I have ascended. When we get to 2022, I’m watching Rise. I am reborn. (Just kidding. Mostly.) I’m delighted to join the incredible talent and passion behind this project. When I’m not writing extensive essays about turtles over on YouTube, I’m probably writing another extensive essay on media and writing at university. Or playing video games."
