Got up early to check this out ASAP, and was delighted with it - what a great edit! It's got a serious, dramatic vibe where the story calls for it, but still allows for Clangers and sandwiches! The TWBTLATS line gave me the shivers. Very excited for tonight!
LIVE NOW on @BBCiPlayer! THE SEA DEVILS – our 90-minute 2025 re-cut, with new music by Lorne Balfe, fresh sound by @markayresrws.bsky.social, and a few surprises. 👀 Perfect Sunday-morning viewing, before its TV debut on BBC Four tonight at 7pm. 🌊😈 GO, GO, GO!!! www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/epis...

COMING TOMORROW! 🌊😈 Move over Russell Tovey and Gugu Mbatha-Raw – there’s a new human/Homo Aqua couple in town: Jon Pertwee and… I wanna say Pat Gorman? (CC: @tobyhadoke.bsky.social – he’ll know.)

It’s the will-they/won’t-they romance of 2025. Or 1972.

This (and the rest of the thread) is such an improvement! I'd thought I must be an idiot for not understanding the original. These are interesting and beautiful, too.
A better way to show the relation between pairs of numbers is to plot them on a scatter chart. This immediately shows the clusters around 2, 3, 4, 6 episodes that Classic Who stories were mostly produced as, and how this didn’t automatically produce novelisations of the same length.

Have been looking forward to this book for years. It finally lands!

Just waiting for it to cool down and be opened.

Really enjoying the Season 7 Blu-ray. I've just discovered Mark Ayres' lovely recreation of the Dudley Simpson UNIT theme from Ambassadors of Death is on the Photo Gallery - such a little thing, but it's made my day

Took some effort (though there wasn't as much chopping around as I feared) but here's how The War Games In Colour compares to the original episodes. With thanks to @benjamincook.bsky.social for encouragement and verification.

Hi @petercrockersvs.bsky.social Do you know if there's a story behind the alternate edit of the Spearhead factory scene with the dolls, seen on the 1988 VHS and some Australian and US broadcasts? youtu.be/moJDWc7C0e0?... It sounds like it's not on the Season 7 Collection...?

AoD6. Very similar CR result to ep 5 so, again, no off-air colour used.

AoD4. Before Colour Recovery this would have been the hardest episode to return to restore as the off-air tape has no coherent or useful colour. We’re fortunate that CR is at the upper end of the spectrum.

AoD5. The only episode for which the off air recording has relatively good colour throughout. However, the colour recovery result is also above average and with work gives better results

AoD3. Historically the most challenging episode as the off-air tape from WNED Buffalo has very little good colour and the colour recovery result was also comparatively poor. A lot of work has been needed to get closer to the quality we like.

AoD2. The only known off-air recording of this story is generally poor with many sections unusable and ep 2 typifies this. Colour Recovery, while struggling to decode shadow hues consistently, unsurprisingly proved to be better throughout.

Silurians 7. Not a bad off-air recording, but CR also pretty good so gives better colour registration. CR also requires a lot of work to correct hue errors- major and minor - throughput but the end results are worth it to get the episode closer to how it looked in 1970. 1/2

Silurians 6. A sort of inverse ep 5 in terms of the off-air which starts unusable but improves as it progresses although is never great. Colour Recovery giving better results overall with tighter registration.

Silurians 5. The off-air recording starts out poor but watchable, but by the end is unusable so Colour Recovery proved vital on this episode

Silurians 4. Reasonable colour recovery result so colours tend to have better registration, more detail and the inevitable CR minor hue fluctuations less troublesome than NTSC broadcast and domestic tape issues.
