Even if you're already exhausted by coverage of Trump's incoming auto tariffs, give my boss @patrickgeorge.bsky.social's story here a read.

Hyundai's enormous new Metaplant shows that the tariffs are inescapable, even for companies with amazing timing and gleaming new U.S. plants.
Hyundai did everything right when it comes to making cars in America, especially with $12.6 billion in investments in Georgia alone and one of the most advanced EV factories on Earth.

Then came the tariffs.

This bit from my interview with Lucid Motors' CEO surprised me: He told me he'd love it if the vast majority of Lucid's business someday wasn't selling cars—but rather tech licensing. He wants Lucid to be like the "Intel Inside" for EVs.

It makes sense, since cars are a notoriously crappy business
Peter Rawlinson said the goal is to get Lucid tech into Hondas and Toyotas, and the cars are a "shop window" to do that.

He also thinks Lucid stands to benefit if other rivals slow down on their EV investments.

The president has no authority to claw back funding for EV chargers, even if he wants to "Terminate The Green New Deal."

Still, I've got to imagine the funding pause/review Trump ordered could disrupt states and charging companies as they plan out new stations. Any tips here--my DMs are open.
The Trump administration is hitting pause on all types of federal funding, but money for EV chargers has been in the crosshairs for a long time. Can Trump stop EV charging push in its tracks?

Tesla needed this. But still TBD whether this update is enough to grow Model Y sales. It's already the world's best-selling car, after all.

What Tesla really needs to not have a repeat of 2024's sales slump is a totally new car. And we still don't know exactly what that is or when it'll launch.
