A little insight into the process of creating “Storm at Crowcombe, 1724”.

Time races on relentlessly. It’s already a week since I was traversing Exmoor with my dearest chum, walking out to distant churches, along the old ways, finding those thin places in the landscape where the layers of memory feel closer.

Here’s one of the places we ventured out to at Culbone.

A new work, “Storm at Crowcombe, 1724”, is included in the Burton at Bideford’s annual open exhibition.

If you’re in the area you can see the exhibition alongside the others selected by the panel until 21st December. #art

A stained glass window memorial to Lieutenant Edmund Gay at Aldborough church in Norfolk, included within the design is his last landscape. A way to transport the viewer standing in a quiet English parish church, to the corner of a foreign field in which Edmund now lies.

We will remember them. #ww1

Autumn is really going for it outside my studio window.

A trip to the Post Office, a chance reading of a sentence in Arthur Mee’s volume on Devon sat in the car park, and a returned cross I had no idea existed discovered.

A jaunt over to Somerset with the boys today to visit and sketch the church at Crowcombe, and what a treat it was.

The first dry day of this Half-term meant I was able to get out with the boys on the estate. We walked out to Loxhore along tracks our ancestors helped to wear into the land.

A glorious Autumn evening at Arlington. It’s on evenings such as these that I feel very fortunate to call this place home.

I’ve been working on a new piece off and on for the last couple of weeks. Hopefully I’ll finish it in the next day and I’ll be able to share the finished work. But, for now, here’s a detail from the work in progress.

Is there a finer pairing ever to have written a church guidebook than Edmund Blunden and John Piper for Long Melford in Suffolk?

If you’re in or around Falmouth on Saturday 18 October why not pop along to the Ink, Paper & Print Fair.

There are going to be some amazing creatives and I’m incredibly honoured (and a little nervous) to be alongside them.

If you are around why not come and say hello!

The first proof of my Hoare Monument linocut design is complete.

I will be editioning a small batch of hand-burnished prints shortly and they’ll be available on my website or in person at my upcoming fairs.
