Fusion Fix adds a skip menu and skip intro option to load right into your last save once you launch the game. The mod also improves loading times significantly.

This makes getting in-game in GTA IV much faster when using Fusion Fix.

GTA IV's mouse input was broken at higher frame rates such as 60FPS and it would barely respond to smaller inputs.

Fusion Fix improves mouse input with a raw input option added to the menu, making mouse controls much more accurate for the player.

Z-Fighting was extremely prevalent on PC, gaining any sort of height would cause a lot of the map to flicker repeatedly.

Fusion Fix fixes this and z-fighting is basically eliminated entirely.

Cutscenes were broken on PC over 30FPS.

At higher frame rates the camera and characters in cutscenes stutter significantly even if your frame rate is consistent and the field of view also changed weirdly in each scene.

Fusion Fix fixes all of these issues.

The camera is supposed to shake as Niko moves in the vanilla game, but the effect becomes almost invisible above 30FPS.

Fusion Fix fixes this so the camera shake effect works at any frame rate and it also adds an option in the pause menu to disable it entirely.

Soft particles exist on the console version of GTA IV, but they were missing on PC due to a bug.

Fusion Fix restores soft particles so particle effects no longer look like they're harshly clipping into objects.
September 19, 2025 at 11:02 AM
The strength of vehicle reflections were reduced on PC and they were also jagged due to a bug.

Fusion Fix restores vehicle reflection strength back to console levels and it fixes the jagged bug.

Mirrors also became distorted at certain camera angles on PC, this has been fixed.

The new version of Fusion Fix adds a new "Extended Sun Reach" option.

Originally, sunlight is clamped at 75 degrees, this means a lot of the map doesn't get sunlight even when it should.

The new option changes it to 90 degrees, allowing sunlight to light up objects correctly.

Water foam was also missing on PC, but this has been restored with Fusion Fix.

And as well as that, Fusion Fix improves the edges of water so instead of harshly clipping into terrain, it transitions much smoother into the terrain.
September 19, 2025 at 11:02 AM
In the PC version, the surface texture of water was excessively tiled. This looked quite noisy and shimmery.

Fusion Fix changes the surface texture so the noisiness is significantly reduced and the texture just looks better overall.

Rain droplets that appear on the screen were black on PC instead of white like on console due to a bug.

The droplets were also missing their refraction effect.

Fusion Fix fixes the droplets so they appear white again and it also restores the refraction effect.

The size of rain streaks would also change depending on your frame rate.

Higher FPS made rain streaks smaller, lower FPS made them bigger. Fusion Fix fixes this so rain streaks look the same at any frame rate, based on how they look at 30FPS, which is the same as console.
September 19, 2025 at 11:02 AM
Rain streaks and splashes were increased by 4 times in the PC version, but then Rockstar Toronto made rain barely visible for some reason.

Fusion Fix reduces the rain effects back to console levels, but also restores the rain visibility from console, which looks much better.

GTA IV had 2x MSAA on Xbox 360, but the PC and PS3 versions didn't have any sort of anti-aliasing.

Fusion Fix adds options for FXAA and SMAA. Two low cost anti-aliasing options which reduce aliasing quite a lot.
September 19, 2025 at 11:02 AM
You probably noticed the original PC port in these comparisons look more washed out in comparison to Fusion Fix.

This is because the PC version lacked the colour curves from console. Fusion Fix restores the console colours with a new "Console Gamma" option in the pause menu.
September 19, 2025 at 11:02 AM
Motion blur got weaker as your frame rate got higher in the vanilla game.

Fusion Fix allows you to select the strength of the motion blur in the pause menu, as well as giving you the option to turn it off entirely.
September 19, 2025 at 11:02 AM
Depth of Field and bloom didn't scale with resolution correctly in the vanilla game.

Fusion Fix fixes this and basically rewrites these two effects. Depth of field now has different strength options in the pause menu and bloom can also be toggled from the pause menu too.

Speaking of volumetrics, volumetric lights were broken on the PC version due to a typo. This meant objects in front of them didn't actually block any light, this has been fixed with Fusion Fix.

Fusion Fix also improves the shape of volumetric lights, making them smoother.
September 19, 2025 at 11:01 AM
Another new graphical effect that has been added with the latest Fusion Fix update is volumetric fog.

Volumetric fog hides the ugly water cut off at the horizon and it increases the far clip to 4000 meters so you no longer see buildings clipping in and out in the distance.
September 19, 2025 at 11:01 AM
One of these new graphical effects is sun shafts. An effect you can enable from the pause menu.

Sun shafts adds God rays from the sun and it looks unreal. The sun shining through the buildings of Liberty City or through foliage looks fantastic and it's a big improvement.

Fusion Fix, an open-source mod for GTA IV, not only fixes almost all of these issues, it also vastly improves GTA IV in many other ways.

New quality of life features, faster loading times, tons of new options and new faithful graphical effects. Let's take a look!
September 19, 2025 at 11:01 AM
The PC port is full of issues not seen on console.

While the PC port is mostly known for having poor performance, there are also tons of graphical effects missing, plenty of graphical effects broken, z-fighting all over the map, cutscenes judder above 30FPS and much more.
September 19, 2025 at 11:01 AM
First, the GTA IV re-release will likely use the PC port as a foundation as it's the latest codebase of GTA IV.

Same thing with the Definitive Editions using the mobile ports as a base and non-GTA titles such as Crysis Remastered, using the inferior 2011 console port as a base.
