author of horrible things. One part John Steinbeck, two parts R.L. Stine.

my latest book is MARGINAL (Titan Books)... think of it like THE SUBSTANCE for people who read too many productivity books
Missed this due to having Bsky mostly blocked (to reduce stress/distraction) but this is extraordinary

To my shame, I didn't think to check that before posting

Ooh I hadn't realised he'd written another. I've got fond memories of The Family Fang although IIRC I didn't think it quite stuck the landing

I'm with you - seeing an endorsement from an author I love is a huge part of selling me a book

Delighted you enjoyed this Steven - thanks so much for posting about it. It flew under a lot of people's radar

I think I'm just not a huge fan of biographies, and in my mind this sub-genre feels like a variant on a biography. I enjoy them more as audiobooks

Thanks - haven't heard of this but I'll keep an eye out. I don't always get on brilliantly with books about books, I can bounce off them quite easily, but it kind of depends on the narrative voice

That audiobook is incredible, one of the all time greats. Kristen Scott Thomas is so perfect as a narrator.

It's a crime that these aren't more widely known. Sheer delight

Whoops - just that the re-read happened this month - I read Middlemarch roughly once a decade

I'm hardcore, but even I'd blanch at reading 918 of the same pages every month

I'll never forget my starter. So much work
