author of horrible things. One part John Steinbeck, two parts R.L. Stine.

my latest book is MARGINAL (Titan Books)... think of it like THE SUBSTANCE for people who read too many productivity books
I'm as open to a long sentence as the next man, but "during winter break from Bennington at a casual dinner with a few friends at La Scala Boutique in Beverley Hills in the months preceding Ron Levin's murder at the hands of BBC's security director that Joe ordered" is far too long a clause

IDK whether Sarah Wynn-Williams revelations about Facebook in CARELESS PEOPLE are worth the asking price, but I can confirm that her story of being bitten by a shark as a thirteen year old and then told to "get over it" by her parents while she vomited blood is... really something

@depthsofwikipedia.bsky.social Misspoke just now and the result was I wanted to look up if there are any penguins in coats of arms. God bless the Wikipedia editor who put together this category ❤️ 🐧https://commons.m.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Penguins_in_heraldry

Inadvertently made Severance 400% more harrowing by watching it at the same time as Parks and Recreation. Ben Wyatt was so happy, and they broke him.

NGL the main thing I've got from reading The Power Broker so far is a desire to watch Parks and Recreation again

Had forgotten how much the makers of Severance made up Adam Scott to look like someone melted Tom Cruise like a candle

Staggered by this month's re-read of Middlemarch. Incredibly timely and insightful: even more so than I remembered. I suspect it's been enhanced by my own experiences over the past decade.

It really is one of the all time greats: if you haven't tackled it yet, don't delay.

Bought some crusty white bread for lunch at the recommendation of @stuckinabook.bsky.social. It's disappointing
I am not alone @tjcarlisle.bsky.social! I maintain that sourdough does nothing that crusty white bread wasn't already doing better.
How did Big Sourdough Corp achieve such bread dominance? It’s expensive, chewy, butter falls through the holes and it’s gum-endangeringly sharp when toasted. Let’s start the anti-sourdough fightback

Huh. And there was me thinking every UK school kid was definitely vaccinated against TB.

This isn't the place for sincerity, I get that. But still. Existential philosophy might be the way back for us. It's what we need right now
This is incredible

Lo, the hosts of evil round us
scorn thy Christ, assail his ways.
From the fears that long have bound us
free our hearts to faith and praise.
Grant us wisdom, grant us courage
for the living of these days,
for the living of these days.

It's nearly Candlemas. I know most of you neither know nor care about Candlemas (a feast celebrating the presentation of Christ) but you know what you do need? Something to celebrate in this bleak stretch between Christmas and actual daylight. So light a damn candle and have dinner with your friends

A Jesus in and among the oppressed who subverts our assumptions about power over others is transformative enough to heal the harm caused by hierarchy and liberate toward wholeness. But a Jesus who exercises top down power has nothing transformative to say or model to us.
If your Christianity causes you to be offended by someone asking the most powerful person in the country to be merciful towards the powerless, then you have profoundly misunderstood the teachings of Jesus Christ.

ugh I know bluesky is better than the bad place, I do know that, but I still find myself thinking most days, "why I am I doing this, why am I here, what is the point"

anyway back to reading Sartre
