I'm reading Other Minds right now, about consciousness (and octopi), and I really like it, and though I'm really not above getting chatgpt to tell me how to fix my matplotlib colorbar, it does really highlight how chatgpt is not consciousness...

Our paper shows that this recovery can lead to an enhancement of Southern Ocean carbon uptake — great news — but only under a low emissions scenario. More here: www.uea.ac.uk/about/news/a...

New research suggests that the negative effects of the ozone hole on the carbon uptake of the Southern Ocean are reversible, but only if greenhouse gas emissions rapidly decrease.

Thanks to the 1987 Montréal protocol - still one of the best examples of international collaboration on a common problem - today we can see the ozone hole recovering.

In the 20th century, the ozone hole caused a number of Southern Hemisphere changes, including stronger winds and less atmospheric carbon drawdown.
