I write about Bugs Bunny cartoons and other facets of old animation along with general cinema interests at www.strawberrypenguin.ca . I am based in Atlantic Canada, where it is very cold and very windy.
It was a lovely Q&A for our event too (conducted by Andrea Subissati of Rue Morgue), and she was super personable and eager to chat with movie goers in the lobby afterwards too.

Karen loves the print and she gasped when we unrolled it and showed it to her. She exclaimed, "I have the same exact one! It's on my office wall!" - @alexxkittle.bsky.social

I was briefly on there in my teens in the 00s! (More of a reader than a prolific poster though). I liked reading the Mafia game threads.

I see what you mean. I like both movies for much of their proceedings (largely the hostage drama and the uncertainty of the dueling sides), but I like neither of their endings. They both sorta lose me in their final act switch flips. Movies are just better when they're more ambiguous.

Save the Green Planet! is a stronger film than Bugonia, but I admire the boldness to remake something so idiosyncratic and to make it just as strange with a totally different tone. I'd recommend both films. One is zany and electric. One has Emma Stone and Jesse Plemmons engaged in a chamber drama.

I also lucked out and found one of these at my thrift store and I'm in the habit of running it through the VCR once every few months. It's technically more for cleaning debris and dirt, but if there are any lite traces of mold in the VCR, this may help in getting some of that sorted out.

There are a ton of would-be experts on YouTube with videos on the subject. I personally wouldn't trust the randoms, but this is Oscar Becher, Film Archivist and Vault Manager at Vinegar Syndrome, and he shows off some tape cleaning techniques near the end of this video.

So much talent and career promise from that younger cast. Sheryl Lee, Sherilyn Fenn and Mädchen Amick should have all been such big stars.

Backbeat is a movie that I remember exists about once a year, think "damn that sounds cool, I should watch it" and then I never watch it. I just listened to the Skeleton Key pod episode and not once did I ever think "I should watch this". Thanks for watching it so I don't have to.

My prime time program with TCM on November 17th covers Robert Altman's COME BACK TO THE FIVE AND DIME and the Gay Bar Christmas Picture SOME OF MY BEST FRIENDS ARE. SOME OF MY BEST FRIENDS ARE doesn't screen anywhere very often and doesn't have a DVD in circulation.
