If you've ever wanted to read a 7000 word piece on the theatrical short animation industry's final hit character, Pink Panther, today's your lucky day. I watched 100 cartoons, and went long on this Friz Freleng and Hawley Pratt series from the '60s and '70s.

More than two months ago, friend and Box Office Gross podcaster Brian Schmid asked me if I had interest in discussing any of the Top 50 Highest Grossing Films of 2006 on the show. I pretty quickly …

I wrote about Turner Classic Movies and Bugs Bunny, their five-day 45 cartoons celebration last week, what I liked about their curation and contextualization of classic animated short films, and also addressed areas which could have been handled more carefully.

Farm Relief (1929), the early Krazy Kat talkie from Manny Gould and Ben Harrison, is peak Prohibition cartoon hijinks. The print is so battered it feels like I'm watching a dispatch from hell.

The best cartoons from the Great Depression Prohibition America of 1930 are the ones where the protagonist is being an absolute horndog, beer is flowing at the speakeasy, children are accidentally getting drunk, and animals are playing musical instruments. I can imagine the hollering of the audience

I am someone who appreciates fine art. *votes accordingly for Alice in Wonderland*
Today in the second round of the Walt Disney Animation Studios bracket, two sisters go up against a girl, a mad tea party, and a lot of silliness.

An epic two-part portrait starring a magnetic Sandrine Bonnaire (À nos amours, Vagabond), Jacques Rivette (L’Amour fou, Va savoir) tells the story of Joan of Arc.

This is worthy of being the Finals. Beauty and the Beast is the greatest Disney animated feature of the last 40 years. The Three Caballeros extends upon the promise of Fanatasia, borderless cinema reflecting upon itself and pushing to invent new filmic language. I can't vote on this one.
Today in the second round of the Walt Disney Animation Studios bracket, we just may have to part ways with a trio of lovable birds, because they’re facing off against a pretty tough customer.

The greatest adaptation of Wuthering Heights is the Red Dress Version of Kate Bush's song. The second best is the Skeleton Graveyard version. The third best is the White Dress version. The 1939 film is fourth.
