That $1.60 that you pay in the United States is what allows your local outlet to cover your community. A 20 oz. bottle of Coca-Cola costs less than that.

According to Protect My Public Media, "Federal funding, which amounts to about $1.60 per person annually, makes public media possible."

Overseas, the BBC license fee covers TV, radio, and web. It's the equivalent of $216 USD per year.

KMXT operates in Alaska. They started to produce the Alaska Fisheries Report because the fishermen on boats could catch the radio broadcast. Now, they are able to listen to and download the podcast so they can listen when it's more convenient. www.kmxt.org/podcast/alas...
