The poor fairies gave up magic for 16 years just to evade the dumbest hunchmen in existence who didn't understand that babies grow up.

#maleficent really comes out of the gate swinging. "Not offended at all that you didn't invite me! Everything is fine. Oh, btw, I'm cursing your daughter to die. See ya!"

Omg is #streganona just a Sorcerer's Apprentice retelling!?

Apparently the first complete performance of The Nutcracker didn't happen in the US until 1944 (#sanfranciscoballet). Several US companies have reworked the original ballet, which has helped it to become a seasonal staple for many. Back to our regularly scheduled program!

Second song up is the #nutcrackersuite and the narrator says it's from a ballet called, "The Nutcracker which wasn't very successful and isn't performed much anymore." So I need to pause and look up what's happened to revive that ballet since 1940.

I love the little intro that talks about different kinds of songs including, "music just for music's sake". Perhaps this is where my love of the orchestra came from? It's definitely a great way to teach kids about classical music.

I never understood this as a kid. Why are they turning into donkeys? Are donkeys such a hot commodity that they are kidnapping boys and giving them alcohol and cigars and all the food they can eat just to make a donkey?

Smoking when you're made of wood seems like an extra bad idea. Just saying.

Poor Pinocchio is given "life" but no brains and Jiminy Cricket isn't much help. So now he's on his way to Pleasure Island with a bunch of hooligans. This can't end well.

Yeah, this one is so scary. He's locked in a cage and being threatened with an axe. Great.

And now all these puppets are hitting on Pinocchio, "I'd cut my strings for you."

Why do the fox and cricket get to talk and not the cats or fish? This world is silly.

Bring back the bodice that tries to suffocate Snow and the poisoned comb - she could use a second costume.

At least in this one she ostensibly knows the Prince before he kissed her and has expressed that she wants to live happily ever after with him. It's been a long time since I last saw this one, and it's still enjoyable.

I do NOT remember the queen dying by falling off a cliff and being crushed by a boulder. Good riddance?

For someone who wants to be the fairest of them all so badly she's willing to murder a child, the wicked witch turns herself into an old hag awfully prematurely. Maybe do your evil planning and preparation THEN become ugly.

If these dudes could learn to clean up after themselves they seem like a hoot.
May 27, 2025 at 11:21 PM
Fun fact, in the original story the house was spotless and she drank some wine and had a Goldilocks moment with the beds before falling asleep. Apparently by the 1930s we needed to portray men as unable to clean after themselves and in need of a random teenager to do the dishes.

Also, I know I'm talking into the void here... But did this movie establish the trope of princesses controlling woodland creatures? Or did that exist already? Time to research.

Imagine wandering into a random dirty house and deciding it must belong to a group of orphans and maybe if you clean it up, they'll let you move in with them. Solid plan. Especially when the wild animals will help you clean.
