My thanksgiving display has been vastly improved by my new skeletal buddy from the Halloween clearance display.

So my neighbors let me gank their pile of branches, used it to hold some raked leaves in place to help improve the soil conditions for spring (there's some kitchen scraps in there too) and had an idea for vine supports for the spring. In the meantime, my new row of decorative trees needs lights.

Cool, found one of my favorite passages in a book. It was an audio book, I had to pause and write it down as I sat at a bus stop in my early 30s.

Once upon a time teenage me drooled over glass corn in a science magazine. Someone was growing it, but it wouldn't be available commercially for a few years. I put it on my wishlist for when I eventually did the grow food thing. I'm now pushing 50 and finally did the thing.

Hmm. I think froggie has an eye issue. Other pics show no bulge in that eye, though it looks like something is glimmering. Well, good he has shelter then. Also explains why he was so chill with me sitting close on that side. He positions himself so he can't see me.

Found a pair of cardinals when looking in empty lots for landscaping stones the other day, they were nailed to a tree, forgotten when someone moved out. They look so cheery next to the sunflowers :). Can't wait to make the found object gargoyle to go under them.

Starting to insulate my container #garden with packed in mulch that absorbs spilled water, will break down over time and I'll keep adding to it, until I have a hill of compost I can plant herbs in. I'm also adding little habitats, and someone moved in!

A window box container full of wild violets, a cucamelon vine, mulch, and a tree frog surrounded by other pots and mulch. To the upper right of the window box is a clay pot I filled with leaves and a bit of curved bark that makes a cave for him to hide in, and covered with leaves. He's a chill guy who has hung around in this area I putter in frequently for over a day, and let me move the pot in while he sat there. Gray treefrog (Dryophytes versicolor), colored a light muddy tan, mottled with darker grey. When I found him yesterday, I watered him and offered him a bit of bark to hide in, and sat nearby sketching. So, today he didn't seem as nervous when I got close to move in a potential hiding spot and took some better pics (yesterday's were blurry). Same guy from the side, showing a hint of his gold eye. He let me get within a few inches for this one, and only stirred a little. He seems to understand modeling is payment for a damp, safe little habitat where he will be pampered by some weirdo in black. The container garden on this side, showing a couple of rubbermaid bins and pots with a garden gnome and a bunch of stones. One of the containers has hopniss, tomatoes, garlic, and spring onions. The other has 5 smaller containers with roses, cuttings from this summer who won't be transplanted until spring. I am filling their container with mulch, and will be draping plastic over the area. The rocks hold back the growing pile of mulch, and will help retain heat from the sun in the winter. Moss gardens soak up the moisture at the edges of the mulch hill I'm building, and I have a growing cave of sticks that will provide shelter near both cool moss and dirt, or stones that have warmed in the sun.

TLDR: Here's how to cook heart.
As the family’s resident weirdo, I was the only one delighted at the thought of cooking organ meat for my dogs, and sampling it. There are still certain organs that the humans in my family aren’t anxious to try, but as soon as the scent of beef heart rose in the air, it was like a magnet drawing curious tasters who came back for seconds and thirds. You have a choice of one of two ways to cook it. The civilized method would be to slice the heart into even strips, and saute them as such. For those who love chaos and darkness, I suggest throwing the whole thing on a cast iron skillet, sear it, and then lower the heat to prevent too much char. The center will take a while to heat up, and it will bleed, bleed, bleed. Sip some red wine out of something with a skull on it, and hum your favorite horror movie theme. Turn frequently to prevent burning. It can be sliced into strips or chunks to serve. The result will be something that will delight those who love a range of textures and flavor on their meat.
