The judge ruled the ban relied on unscientific definitions of sex that barred intersex people from bathrooms: “Under the Act, however, transgender people cannot use sex-separated facilities that correspond with their gender identity and intersex people cannot use sex-separated facilities at all.”

Gavi acknowledges that the PCV rollout has room to improve, but the impact is huge: 1.2 million children's lives were saved by preventing pneumonia through the rollout of the pneumococcal conjugate vaccine in low-income countries from 2009-2023. Under-5 deaths from pneumonia were almost cut in half.

PCV was introduced in high income countries years earlier: this is the fatal divide in access to medicines that we speak of, and that the world shouldn't tolerate but does. In Canada, pneumococcal vaccination is part of the routine immunization schedule for kids and older adults. It saves lives.
