Members of the Oregon National Guard, who are our friends and neighbors, have been away from their families and jobs for 50 days on an unnecessary deployment. With the holidays approaching, every single member deserves to go home.

I am disgusted that President Trump has the audacity to take taxpayers’ money away from them when they are in crisis. This is ridiculous, immoral, and Oregon will fight this every step of the way.

When I came into office, it was clear that Oregon had a humanitarian crisis at our doorstep. We had to make big, bold moves – and fast. These outcomes show it is working, but there’s more work to do.

My office is reaching out to the White House and Homeland Security for more information. We have been provided no information on the reason or purpose of any military mission. There is no national security threat in Portland. Our communities are safe and calm.
